I Also Want

I want to lie with you in a green field
feel the cool grass against our necks
the soft breeze across the paddock
and the brush of your hand on mine

I want to walk with you on a quiet beach
smell the salt and the clean brine air
lay our warm blankets in the dunes
crack a flask of creamy hot chocolate

I want to sit with you in a forest clearing
let the pine needles fall through my fingers
watch you as you fill your sketchbook
breathe deep of the damp woody perfume

I know…

I want nothing more than to grip your hand
and stare across the harbour at the other side
as the sun goes down beneath the inky hills
the hustle and bustle behind us finally

I want nothing more than to sit with you
while you work intently by electric lights
as the night envelops us in this little room
our private island of calm and concentration

I want nothing more than to hold you close
and shield you from the midnight terrors
as the witching hour approaches and then flies
a warm and impregnable fortress of blankets

Selfish, I know…

I Fall Deep

A romantic heart is my affliction
the poets blood within my veins
pumps a little faster when I see you
it quickens and fills me with warmth

And I fall deep

Often this has been my misfortune
to have the heart so willing in my chest
thumping out the sweet infatuation
my face reddened and my hands weak

And I fall deep

For when I am enamoured and besotted
often other hearts beat counter-wise
and what may seem to be a common rhythm
was simply an error in the reading

And I fall

It Is Yours

Do not writhe away from it
or resist and push against it

Do not mock it in fright
or recoil or fight it

Do not pretend it’s painful
or spit in the face of it

It is yours…

Take it gently by the hand
but make your grip firm

Look it straight in the eye
and make peace with it

Embrace it and most importantly
relax in to its warm sanctuary

It is yours…

A Three Part Tiding

The longest night is anticipation
when the morning light can’t come too fast
and the darkness seems to drag forever
everyone else slumbers
sleep and you’ll miss it

The sweetest taste have the fruits of passion
they gild the tongue with a lingering warmth
and you feast upon them long and hearty
but devour them wisely
that fruit will not keep

The longest day is disappointment
when you can’t wait for the pain to pass
they wonder how you were fooled so plainly
when they think that you jumped
but really you fell…

Symphony Here

Here beneath the stunning stars we lay
talked quietly of our deepest thoughts
dismissed concerns and reassurances
hands clasped together in tight union
synchronous rhythm section of our hearts

Here beside a rushing crystal stream we sat
altered consciousnesses with our friends
deep laughing at the smallest nonsense
passing the universal pipe of peace
The pounding of drums surround our heads

Here under this lattice of ancient branch
we took shelter from the heat of the sun
shared stories of our rare separate days
face to each other in lush green pastures
Kiss me and let the strings take flight!

Obligatory Love Poem #1

I wrote this for Valentines day some years ago, I felt it at the time.

The sun is setting in the west
and weary heads are laid to rest
upon the pillows, between the sheets
the falling breath, the twin heart beats

the birds are roosting in the trees
across the lake, a cool, clear breeze
and in the darkness of the night
the arms entwined, the feeling right…

I know it’s early, but I’ve never had much to celebrate on February 14th.

I remain, however; a hopeless romantic.
