Ignorant People

Shame be upon you
cruel ignorant people
you who’s selfish abandon
tills the earth of your loins
bears the fruit of a child

and then leaves him to spoil
and neglects him to ruin
and imprints him with terror
from your own self made demons
from your own earthly sins

It would have been better
you greedy narcissus
to have left his pure essence
as one with the ether

peace beyond the veil
and to float with the spirits
and to kiss inexistence
free from bruises and hunger
free from death of the soul

Once Again

your trap spring has gone and caught me
even though I knew the score

should have kept back when I saw them
footprints on the dusty floor

I am a hope-less fool romantic
laid it all down at your door

should not have trodden any further
someone else had gone before

Red Leather Chair

Follow your head he said
the wise man with his pipe
and his book and degrees
and his red leather chair
just follow your head boy

my head it fails me sir
it does not speak to me
in words I understand
my head it fails me

Then follow your heart
said the man in his chair
with the smoke in the room
and the dust on the books
just follow your heart boy

my heart fails me sir
it does not speak to me
for it is timid and quiet
my heart it fails me

Then follow your dreams
said the man with degrees
gently stroking his beard
with a mild agitation
just follow your dreams boy

my dreams fail me sir
for it’s long since I dreamed
my pillow is soft yet
my dreams they fail me

Thin Fabric

Every morning ordinarily
I pull on a delicate robe
of finespun featherweight silk
and then go out in to the world

A hand-made outer garment
my facade of some normality
I work hard to keep opacity
but sometimes the light seeps through

Hustle and Bustle

Sometimes we get so caught up
in obsessing about people that we
forget to smell the flowers or
appreciate the sunrise

Human life can throw up so much
fodder for our outpourings
occasionally we need to dip
our feet in to a stream

Cast aside the drama of our
limited existence and remember
that there’s still a wondrous
world beyond the door

so don’t ignore it

Dark Days

dark pendulous clouds

a lingering bitter chill

we all yearn for warmth

a little sliver of light

It Is Yours

Do not writhe away from it
or resist and push against it

Do not mock it in fright
or recoil or fight it

Do not pretend it’s painful
or spit in the face of it

It is yours…

Take it gently by the hand
but make your grip firm

Look it straight in the eye
and make peace with it

Embrace it and most importantly
relax in to its warm sanctuary

It is yours…

Cherry Blossom

It is so very tranquil here

in the shadow of these great trees

laden with sweet cherry blossom

and a chorus of native birds

I can tread the footsteps to you

with no guidance or direction

between the fine hewn granite stones

your name etched in permanent white

Every time I am drawn to it

I the magnetic supplicant

hide brimming eyes behind glasses

wonder whether you are watching

and whether you’d be proud of me today…
