Thoughts – Collected #1

What strange creatures we are
attracted to such noises

The constant hum and buzz of them
would drive other species mad

And yet we are drawn in by it
the chaos of this competition

Who can shout the loudest
in a room full of shouting people

Who can scream the loudest
and does anybody hear?

The Beach At Night Time

The moonlight is a pale white disc
reflecting on the saturated sand
keeping pace with wet feet
just beyond my reach
this early-evening goddess

Faster, faster I move forward
leaving deep wells of black water
filling quickly and cold in my wake
others have left footprint pools
faster and yet she eludes me

The rising tides send crystal sheets
across the smooth settled shore
and in a moment of chaos
the moon-shine is lost in ripples
fractured in to a million sprites

Recent Erosion

It’s very strange to feel your armour

eroded by the storms of late

polished steel and impenetrable

built up over many seasons

now tarnished and diminished

worn down in spots and rusted

by the frequent acid rains

Summer Column

Look at all you

beautiful things

fresh and green

burst like fireworks

from winter soil

in to the bright

summer

Daisies

Daisies on the fresh-cut lawn
your sunny resurgence marks
the end of winter darkness

Warmth upon frozen ground
has hastened your springtime
resurrection

Truth Without Rhyme

Loose the dogs of war

if you must

but be sure

they will turn on heel

and you will suffer the bite

faster than any pigeons

I ever set free

come home to roost

Interpretation

Am I so blind to true intentions?
Filter words to suit myself
Weave a story out of nothing
And see suggestions where they’re not…

Do I believe those inner voices?
Telling me to stop and think
Or let my mind hallucinate
Better to be Ignorant…

Pace

Today the world moves like
a float on an outgoing tide
bobbing about erratically
and soon out of your sight

Today the world moves like
a comet in the night’s sky
bright flash across the darkness
passing shimmer in your eye

MMXVI

Let us take it tonight by surprise
and bind it, shackles and iron
after twilight and the sun’s retreat
let us bury it down and deep
this annus horribilis

Do not let it stay longer than it should
let us ensure its timely demise
tear stained cheeks it has left us
pits and craters in our hearts
this year of dogs

Perspective

When the clouds become too heavy
they give way and rain falls on to the earth
filling all the cracks and running to the sea
wetting the soils and bringing new life

it has been this way since time immeasurable

You my little butterfly are just passing through
the earth does not blink in that time
despite your beautiful wings and display
you are only a small stitch on a great tapestry

colourful, yet brief
